Kings GM and owner watching Luka Doncic in Madrid

Sacramento Kings GM Vlade Divac and owner Vivek Ranadive are attending Game 2 of the ACB semifinals between Real Madrid and Gran Canaria in the Spanish capital. The reason? Luka Doncic.

The Kings, that already feature former EuroLeague star Bogdan Bogdanovic in their ranks, own the second pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and can select the 19-year-old Real Madrid star if the Phoenix Suns decide to skip choosing and go with Arizona’s DeAndre Ayton instead.

This is a solid chance for Divac and Ranadive to watch Doncic play at the stage of one of the highest levels of basketball in Europe. ACB is widely considered as the top domestic championship in the continent and the league’s competition can be compared with EuroLeague (the top league outside the NBA) at late playoff phases.

Already in the game vs. Gran Canaria, Doncic is showing a sample of why both Divac and Ranadive made the trip to Madrid.

Newly crowned EuroLeague champion Real Madrid marched to the ACB playoffs as the favorite to win the league. As for Doncic, he’s already been named ACB MVP this season, not long after he became the youngest Euroleague season MVP and Final Four MVP in the history of the competition. He’s also won All-EuroLeague First Team and “Rising Star” honors.
