Sasa Doncic on Luka’s possible NBA destinations

Everybody would like to know where Luka Doncic will end up after 2018 NBA Draft. That also puts the people close to him under the spotlight and his father, Serb former player Sasa Doncic, is no exception.

In his interview with Mozzartsport, Sasa noted that Luka would prefer playing with people he already knows well  – alluding to Igor Kokoskov who coached Slovenia – but didn’t exclude other destinations: “He would probably like to work with someone he already cooperated with before. In general, it’s best for him to go to an environment which appreciates players from Europe. Perhaps Dallas, they respect our players there because of Nowitzki (Dirk) who proved himself there.”

And although he admits some lack of understanding for the draft, he has some expectations: “It’s an NBA show, a bit incomprehensible to me… What will happen? Well, it’s like asking me who’ll win a Euro Jackpot. Luka will represent the basketball from Old Continent (Europe), he probably won’t be the first pick. The advantage will go to an American like the guy coming from Arizona, Deandre Ayton. Maybe he will be second, maybe amongst five, and maybe not even amongst them.”

But whichever team his son ends up in, he is sure about what Luka should aim for: “The goal is to leave a mark there. He has done a lot so far but he is at a new beginning. He must adapt to the playing style, to keep trying and prove himself in the end.”.
