Baskonia extended Shengelia with Real Madrid waiting

By Aris Barkas/ barkas@eurohoops.net

Shengelia (2.06 m., 26 years old) averaged 10.8 points on 54.2% three-point shooting (13-of-24) and 4.2 rebounds in 24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season, his third with the club.

In the 2015-16 season, Shengelia helped Baskonia reach the EuroLeague Final Four, but could not play there due to injury. He started his professional career with Valencia Basket, helping it win the 7DAYS EuroCup title in 2010. Shengelia has also played for Pepinster and Spirou Charleroi of Belgium, Chicago and Brooklyn of the NBA and Springfield of the D-League before joining Baskonia in 2014. In 66 EuroLeague career games– 57 of them with Baskonia – Shengelia has averaged 9.7 points and 4.4 rebounds. He is also a regular member of the Georgian national team.

However, according to Eurohoops sources, the player is ready to continue his career at Madrid and this new contract has to do more with the buy-out that Baskonia will receive than anything else.
