Galatasaray reaches an agreement with Chimezie Metu

Former NBA and Barcelona big man Chimezie Metu is preparing for a new adventure in Turkey, despite the interest from EuroLeague teams.

According to Eurohoops sources, Galatasaray has reached an agreement with the 29-year-old big man for the upcoming season. The news was first reported by Donatas Urbonas.

Metu had a successful stint at Gran Canaria, where he transferred in the middle of the 2025-26 season. After tearing his Achilles tendon in March 2025, the experienced big man made an impressive return to the courts, averaging 14.1 points and 4.5 rebounds over 12 games in the Spanish League, playing an average of 26 minutes per game.

During this time, he shot 50% from the field and 36.5% from beyond the three-point line.

Prior to his injury, Metu had a solid EuroLeague rookie year with Barcelona in the 2024-25 season, averaging 11.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and a 11.8 efficiency rating in 20 minutes per game, with shooting percentages of 62.4% for two-pointers and 36.4% for three-pointers.
