Ricky Rubio’s sixth season in the NBA has been generally considered as his best so far. Particularly the second stretch, which was filled with some stunning performances, including notable career-highs against some of the top teams in the league.

More than ever perhaps, it’s only natural for the Spanish point guard to strongly feel and act like the leader of the Minnesota Timberwolves in matters that aren’t strictly confined between the lines of the court.

“I feel I have the role of the leader off the court and experience helps me to know how to do it,” Rubio said in interview with Spanish website Ara. Cat. “Since childhood, I liked to lead the team. Both on and off the court. I’m not a man of many words, I don’t like to talk much. I prefer deeds, sacrifices and showing that what matters is the team.”

Rubio would also like have an extra influence on the decisions the Timberwolves take. When asked if he’d like his opinion to be heard more by the team’s front office, he answered that this is the case indeed and that his own deeds on the floor grants him such a right.

“Yes, I would like my opinion to have more weight on things that affect the team. And I think that is linked to the performance on the court. My second leg of the season gave me more power. And I want things to go well,” Rubio said.
