Derrick Rose is an NBA icon of the last two decades. The youngest MVP in history, having won the trophy in 2011 and leading a Chicago Bulls team that terrorized the Eastern Conference, had a tragic end to his career, hampered by injuries.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rose talks about the “youth” who watch basketball, forgotten legends, and what he thinks will happen to him. He made it clear how he wants to be remembered.
“That I played hard. That I was a winner”, he told Sports Illustrated.
“Truth to be told, given how my story has unfolded, in a few years they probably won’t remember me anymore”, he continued.
“Many young people today don’t even know Wilt Chamberlain, even though he broke a ton of records and won everything. Some don’t know Bill Russell, even though no one won as much as he did”, Rose answered.
“So who am I to think they’ll remember me? Many probably won’t. But I hope that those who discover my story won’t stumble upon it by accident”, he concluded.
