As reported by various Croatian media, Aco Petrovic is no longer the head coach of the country’s national team.

Croatia assistant Ivica Skelin, also the head coach in KK Split, so far appears as the favorite to succeed Petrovic.

After a meeting between the leadership of the Croatian Basketball Federation, headed by president Stojan Vrankovic, with Petrovic, an agreement was mutually reached for the latter’s contract termination.

Croatia failed to reach the EuroBasket quarterfinals after a blowout defeat by Russia which reportedly caused a “negative impact” on both the Federation and coach Petrovic.

This was the third stint of Petrovic at the bench of Croatia. He took the helm of the national team in March 2016 and led them to win the Olympic Qualifiers of Turin (vs hosts Italy) and then reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament in Rio.
