With the EuroLeague season over, the question if there will be four or five Spanish teams in the competition next season remains, however if there’s a wildcard, it will not end up at Darussafaka.

There’s only one scenario that would create a wildcard for next season and that would be Unicaja being the best Spanish team in Liga Endesa outside the trio of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Baskonia which have a ten-year contract with the league.

If this happens, the intention of the EuroLeague is to give the wildcard to a team either from France or Germany and not to Darussafaka Dogus, which is bound to compete in the Eurocup next season, despite reaching the playoffs this year.

What’s certain is that there’s high demand for EuroLeague spots and that’s why the expansion in the league will be a reality in the near future as EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu told to Eurohoops.
