After losing the 2016-2017 season due to an Achilles’ tendon rupture, former EuroLeague champion Sofoklis Schortsanitis is making a comeback attempt with Trikala.

“Big Sofo” has agreed with Trikala head coach Kostas Meksas to first participate in the team’s practices and then join the active game-roster when he’s evaluated completely ready.

The 32-year-old Greek center had signed with Apollon Patras (also coached by Meksas) on December 2016 but didn’t manage to play any game due to the aforementioned injury.

Schortsanitis had a tryout with Aris almost a month ago but this effort didn’t bear fruits.

Throughout his career, Schortsanitis has played with Olympiacos, Maccabi Tel Aviv (with which he won the 2014 EuroLeague), Panathinaikos and Crvena Zvezda, among others.
