At 36 years of age, Czech forward forward Lubos Barton decided to retire from professional basketball. Barton has been a Euroleague champion in 2010 with Barcelona, the jersey of which he wore from 2008 to 2010.

“The time has come to end my career as a basketball player. I assure you that I feel the same love and passion for the sport as my first day I began playing,”, he wrote in his farewell letter announcement.

“I would like to thank everyone I have worked with all these years, teammates, coaches, executives, managers and all the fans, who were very important. Also, I want to especially thank my family who have been with me everywhere I went, travelling with me, supporting me over the years and celebrating my achievements.”

Barton also revealed his future plans that will keep him involved with the sport. “I am not going away, since I will now devote my time energy and passion on being a basketball coach. So this is not a goodbye, but a… ‘see you later’.”

Throughout his career Barton had played in Euroleague for five seasons (2002-2004, 2006 – 2007, 2008 – 2010), as member of Virtus Bologna, Lottomatica Roma, Joventut Badalona and, of course, Barcelona. He actually retired as a player of Barcelona B’ team.
