After Serbia beat Puerto Rico to seal the ticket to the Olympic Games, Sasa Djordjevic announced the players who will participate in the preparation period ahead of Rio. However, Boban Marjanovic’s name wasn’t included in the list, since the Serbian coach decided to proceed with the players present at the qualification tournament, plus Nemanja Bjelica and Milan Macvan.

The newly signed center of the Detroit Pistons said mentioned once more that he wanted to join his country’s national team in Rio. “I have repeatedly stated that my wish is to wear the jersey of the Serbian national team again”, said Marjanovic during an interview for Sportske.net. “That was never a matter of question. Now all the obstacles that stood in my way of putting myself on coach Djordjevic’s disposal have been removed”. Marjanovic talks about his previous status as a free agent, that didn’t allow him to take part in the Serbian national team’s camp. If you are talking about what I want and feel, of course I wanted to play for the national team in the Olympic Games and help them achieve the best possible result. But I respect any decision made in the coach’s selection”, he concluded.

Marjanovic had only the best to say for his team’s highly impressive performances in the Olympic Qualifier “The team played a fantastic qualification tournament. Congratulations to all the players and the coaching staff for a great work done. Although the result and winning first place was the most important thing, we did it with much superiority. Our team played great games on our way to the Olympic Games. I am an optimist and I hope that Serbia will fight for a medal in Rio.”
