While Serbian-Canadian Stefan Jankovic’s immediate goal is obviously to establish himself as a Miami Heat player, he is also weighing the possibilities regarding a quite possibly bright international career.

“I’ve been in contact with both the Serbian and the Canadian Federations,” he stated for the Sun Sentinel. “Obviously there was some interest this summer, but due to summer league, for both Canada and for Serbia, I wasn’t able to do any of the training camps and try-out and the exhibition stuff. So that kind of limited what I was able to do.”

Jankovic moved to Canada in 1997, four years after being born in Belgrade. His father, Drago Jankovic wanted a better life for his family something which they found in Ontario. Their new home.

That’s why Stefan is still undecided when it comes to which national team’s jersey he is going to wear. “I haven’t really made a decision, for the future but I’ve been in contact with both federations.”

The 23-year old stretch big guy also mentioned that he kept track of Serbia’s path to the silver medal in the Olympics with great interest. “Watching Serbia in the Olympic Games was huge. It’s a big thing going on the U.S. And the last couple of tournaments we were in the finals against them. It motivates you.”

Even though he uses the word “we” when referring to the “Orlovi” and obviously considers himself Serbian, he still leaves his options open. “I want to play for them or Canada in the future.”
