Juan Antonio Orenga, previously head and assistant coach of Spain, has taken the helm of the Egyptian national team, as the country’s federation officially announced.

His duties will also include responsibilities regarding the development of Egypt’s youth teams.

In the press conference of his official presentation, the Spanish coach said that he “I believe that Egypt can go one step further in international basketball and I’ll try to help in accomplishing that”, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

“We have to work hard, but all I can say is that I will work every day here, with you”, he added.

Orenga served as an assistant to Sergio Scariolo in the Olympic Games of 2012. After the latter left the team, Orenga was promoted to head coach, sitting at the bench of Spain in the Eurobasket 2013 and World Cup 2014, after which he resigned.

During this summer he led the country’s U20 to the golden medal in the European Championship.
