The ABA League appointed Ibrahim Erkan as its new Sports Director, completing the structure of its sports department.
The 43-year-old assumed the role following a majority vote by the league’s members. His appointment followed those of Miguel Ángel Pérez as President of the Refereeing Commission and Robert Brdar as Disciplinary Judge.
Erkan brought more than 15 years of experience in international basketball management. From 2020 until his appointment, he served on the EuroLeague Executive Board, overseeing club licensing and competition systems across the EuroLeague, EuroCup and U18 competitions.
He also negotiated the first pan-European framework agreements with the EuroLeague Players’ Association and the Union of EuroLeague Basketball Officials, and represented EuroLeague Basketball in discussions with FIBA on the restructuring of European basketball.
Before joining the EuroLeague, Erkan worked for the Turkish Basketball Federation between 2017 and 2020. His responsibilities included international relations and major-event operations, with roles at EuroBasket 2017, the 2017 EuroLeague Final Four in Istanbul and the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
