ABA League championship game delayed after attack on Buducnost players

The fifth final between Crvena Zvezda and Buducnost turned out to be an eventful one with the game still pending.

Buducnost was forced to exit the floor, right after they came out for their warmup for the Game 5 of the ABA League final that will determine the champion.

According to the rules, the team was given a 20-minute interval following an on-court attack that ended with Buducnost returning to the locker rooms. The guests finally returned and the game started.

The Podgorica side sent a letter from the lockers, stating that they were attacked by Crvena Zvezda fans, Earl Clark, Norris Cole and Nemanja Gordic were aimed, while chairs were thrown among other things.

According to the text: ” When our players set out to enter the arena, total hysteria and shooting with all possible hard things went off: coins, phone batteries, stones, full bottles, broom parts, lighters, chairs. About 40 fans entered the court and came to the bench KK Budućnost Voli, they spit on and physically attacked our players. Cole, Earl Clark, and Nemanja Gordic. Gordic was hit with a chair stolen by a fan”.

Similar incidents were registered in Game 3 at Podgorica and as a result, Buducnost was punished. Before the game, the hotel of Crvena Zvezda at Podgorica also surrounded by Buducnost’s who tried to keep the players awake all night.

The situation was similar before Game 5 in Belgrade with fire alarms sounding in Buducnost’s hotel, referees asking for police protection and ultimately fans throwing objects to Buducnost’s players during warm up.
