Girona, founded in 2014 by the standing owner and president Marc Gasol, will be the first Spanish club with a professional 3X3 team, FIBA relays.

Team members will include Nacho Martin, Alex Llorca, Xavi Guirao, Sergi Pino, Sergio de la Fuente, and Javi Vega. Jaume Comas, Spain’s 3X3 national team coach, will be the manager.

“First of all, and as captain of the team, I’d like to thank the club and the president for making this possible. We are delighted to be part of this and we have been waiting for this moment for a long time,” said Nacho Martin presenting the professional 3X3 team, “3×3 is different than basketball. People can watch the games for free. It’s really attractive for the spectators and this is just the beginning for us as we want to go step by step. Our goal is to reach a World Tour Masters. Some teams already called me to ask about this project. This is a really good sign for things to come.”

Gasol, who played for the previous Girona installment, CB Girona, between 2006 and 2008, founded the club in 2014. By 2017, Girona Basket created a senior traditional basketball squad that currently competes in LEB Plata, the third-tier division in Spain.
