Alex Abrines scored a game-high 19 points including 16 straight on 5-5 triples in the third quarter, as Barcelona beat Baskonia 72 – 68 in the first semifinal of the 2020 Spanish ACB Supercup.

Thanks to Abrines’ 3-pointers, Barcelona made a key 13-0 run to take a 55 – 42 lead after Baskonia had tied the score early in the second half. The Blaugrana closed the third quarter up 60 – 45 but Baskonia bounced back to approach 71 – 68 with 44 seconds left thanks to consecutive buckets by Pierria Henry.

It was then that Brandon Davies threw down a chasedown block on a layup attempt by Henry. On the other end, Thomas Heurtel made 1-2 free throws and then Luca Vildoza missed the 3-pointer.

“I don’t remember a game in my life in which I had so many open shots,” Abrines, who also had five rebounds, said to Movistar Plus after the match.

Alec Peters and Luca Vildoza led Baskonia with 14 points apiece while Rokas Giedraitis finished with 12 points. Apart from Abrines, Nikola Mirotic posted 13 points plus eight rebounds and Davies scored 10.

Barcelona will meet either defending Supercup champion Real Madrid or Iberostar Tenerife in the final.
