The Spanish ACB has proposed a plan for the gradual return of fans to arenas amid the coronavirus crisis, league president Antonio Martin announced in an open letter.
ACB has proposed to the Spanish government to allow 500 people in games, the number that the Spanish High Council of Sports has recommended for non-professional sports activities that are taking place indoors. The League provides guarantees according to a “health model” it has created.
Martin says that ACB has designed an “absolutely secure access protocol” that may be implemented so that clubs can once again host games with fan attendance. The plan includes protocols that include how people should enter an arena, how they will be seated in it and what their behavior should be to ensure the safest possible circumstances.
Among other things, Martin emphasizes on the importance of clubs having people in arena once again, to begin recovering from a “considerable negative impact” that is caused due to the absence of ticket revenues.
Martin also adds that it “doesn’t make much sense” to have large crowds in theatres or concerts while professional basketball events are held without any spectators.
In 17 to 30 of June, ACB successfully organized the 2019-2020 final tournament in a “bubble” that took place in Valencia.
