Baskonia repels Badalona to advance to Copa semifinals

Baskonia pushed back a late comeback effort by Badalona to move to the Copa del Rey semifinals.

Baskonia beat Joventut Badalona 96 – 87 in the third quarterfinal game of the Spanish Copa del Rey to become the next team to advance to the semifinals after Lenovo Tenerife and Real Madrid.

The quartet of Achille Polonara (19 points, six rebounds), Rokas Giedraitis (19 points), Pierria Henry (16 points, eight assists) and Alec Peters (16 points) led a dominant, for the most part of the game, Baskonia to the win. Coach Dusko Ivanovic’s players led from start to finish and often by double figures while grabbing a 89 – 71 advantage with 4:44 to play.

Badalona reacted with a 0 – 11 run to make it 89 – 82 with three minutes remaining but Henry and Giedraitis lifted Baskonia back to a double-digit lead and while time was running out against their opponents.

Vladimir Brondziasky had 18 points and five rebounds, Ante Tomic posted a double-double of 14 points plus 11 rebounds and Demetrius Jackson with Xavi Lopez-Arostegui scored 12 points aepice for Badalona.

Baskonia will face the winner of the Barcelona – Unicaja Malaga semifinal in the next stage.
