Ioannis Athinaiou moved to his third team this season, joining RETAbet Bilbao, the team announced Monday, as El Correo reported and Eurohoops sources confirmed.
Athinaiou traveled to Spain to pen the deal for the remainder of the season. He arrives as a replacement for the injured Jonathan Rousselle.
This will be the 32-year-old’s first stint in Spain while he played in Greece, Italy, Turkey and France. In a total of 23 Greek League games this season, with Peristeri and Promitheas, he averaged 6.7 points, 2.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds.
Bilbao has been struggling this season as they failed to pass the group stage in their Basketball Champions League debut while they hold a 7-22 record in the Spanish League, putting them in the relegation zone with ten games remaining.
