As officially announced by Casademont Zaragoza with a press release, “Aday Mara has informed Basket Zaragoza of his desire to unilaterally terminate his contract with the Club, alleging reasons that this entity cannot share”. The 18-year-old gem appears to be on the NCAA radar, according to Relevo.

“From the first day at Basket Zaragoza, as we do with all our homegrown players and in a very special way in the case of Aday, we have made available to the player all the means available to develop his complete academic, sports, and human training. We respect his decision in the same way that we understand contracts must be respected. This has been the case in all the cases of the players trained in our academy and, for the good and defense of the club, we will be forced to adopt the necessary measures so that it continues to be so”, the press release added.

Aday Mara, who made his debut in October 2022 against Cazoo Baskonia, has been averaging 5.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in his first-ever ACB season, playing 22 games with 56.6% from two and being perfect on two total attempts from beyond the arc.

Casademont Zaragoza’s president Reynaldo Benito also commented on the whole situation. “We’d like it not to be a circus. We’re going to treat it naturally, within the complications that there are. The theme is very simple. They want their growth, both personal and professional, to be elsewhere. It’s understandable, it’s respectable. It’s happened to us before with other stonemasons. But there’s a contract. And you have to respect the contracts. There’s a disagreement, there’s no more”, he said.

“Aday Mara has a long-term, long-term contract. Our intention has always been that it grew with us. Aday is special and has been treated on a daily basis, at a personal level, at an academic level, and at a sporting level. The theme is simple. There is a contract. There are clauses. You have to fulfill them. If you understand that’s not the case, someone will have to say how it is”, Benito went on adding.

The 18-year-old center, one of the most promising sensations in Europe, debuted in the 2022 FIBA Europe Cup and stole the show with Spain at the 2022 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, averaging 12.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game to lead the Spanish national team to the silver medal following the loss in the final against the United States of America.
