With just hours to go before the start of the Liga Endesa Finals, Omari Moore and Álvaro Cárdenas spoke to the media to begin discussing this challenging final series against Barça.
Omari Moore noted that Barça “is a team with a lot of talent. I think they have many really good players on the team and they’re in good form. They played well in the first round against Murcia and they also played well in the previous round against Tenerife. So, for us, it will be important to try to stop their attack. They have many players capable of scoring in different ways. They also play very well near the basket with Shengelia. Therefore, we must try to slow down their offensive game and play our own style.”
Moore emphasized that “the home-court advantage is always very important. I think our fans will do a great job creating that atmosphere for Barça. We want to protect home-court advantage, but we’ll take it one game at a time. We want to focus first on the first game and then on the second, and then we’ll see where we stand once those games are over.”
Granada native Álvaro Cárdenas commented that he is approaching his first Liga Endesa final “with a lot of enthusiasm. Nobody would have told me I’d be playing in an ACB League final in June, so I’m really looking forward to seeing if we can win it.”
When asked about the team’s strengths, the Valencia Basket playmaker emphasized that “it’s what the team has been doing all year. When we come out with energy on defense and impose our rhythm, it’s difficult to keep up with us. Against Joventut and Bilbao, they perhaps weren’t as used to playing a game, resting, and then playing again. But Barcelona is, so it’s not going to be easy at all. Staying true to our style will be the key.”
Cárdenas believes that having the first two games of the Final Playoff at the Roig Arena will be “super important. Since I’ve been here, the Roig has been amazing, and when the Valencia fans get behind the team, you really feel it on the court. They give us that extra energy that’s so necessary, especially in a final.”
