Following Barcelona’s resounding 84-108 defeat to Valencia Basket at the Palau Blaugrana, a result that closed the title series 1-3 in favor of the home team, Tomas Satoransky was one of the players most affected. At 34 years old, and barring an unexpected turn of events, everything points to him ending his second stint with the Blaugrana. The Czech point guard returned from the NBA in 2022 and won the Liga Endesa title in his first season back—his only title in his second spell with the club after three years without a trophy.
At the end of the game, Satoransky was substituted and shared an emotional moment with Jan Vesely, who is also leaving Barça, in his case due to retirement from basketball.

Back in the locker room, the Czech player spoke about whether he had considered that returning to Barça might have been a mistake. His answer was no, though he elaborated: “I thought we were going to have a project for many years. That was the idea. I thought Saras and Mirotic were going to be here much longer. That has to be acknowledged. One of my goals was to be able to compete for this. And I think that hasn’t happened. We also have to remember that, it’s often forgotten. With Saras Jasikevicius leaving, everything changed a lot. I didn’t expect it at all. We let go of one of the best. Until Xavi Pascual arrived, with whom we started playing better.”

The Czech international’s words were a direct criticism of the club’s management, who transformed the team in 2023 after winning the Liga Endesa title, turning a winning team that regularly reached the Euroleague Final Four into one far from its peak.
After four years, Satoransky reflected on his second stint, in which titles weren’t achieved. “I want to believe that not everything is measured by victories, even though that’s how it is at Barça. I know I gave it my all and I’m leaving somewhat at peace, but I’ll always remember that winning only one title is a disaster.”

The point guard also offered self-criticism when analyzing his performance since returning to the club, but once again sent a message to the Barça management regarding the negligent handling of the basketball section. “My playing time over the last three years hasn’t been managed very well. It’s also due to the pressure here, and a level of expectation that’s obviously normal, but I was very alone at the point guard position and it wasn’t handled well. Many games like that. Then came the back injury, the worst I’ve ever had, at the worst possible time.”
