Unicaja Malaga players are planning to fully support the strike announced by the Spanish Union of Basketball Players (ABP).

Spanish guard Alberto Diaz and Serbian guard Nemanja Nedovic confirmed to La Opinion de Malaga that this is the will of the whole squad.

It’s something that we don’t like because we want to play but at the end, all the players, not just our team, have made a decision,” Diaz said. “We are just waiting for good communication and the situation to be fixed. We have all taken the decision. Not only our locker room but all of them, both those will play the Cup and those who want to the Cup. We don’t want to go against anyone“.

Nedovic added that, “We are a united collective. We are players. All this doesn’t exist without us. It is good that we are showing unity. The whole team took the decision.”

Yesterday, ABP president Alfonso Reyes announced that the Union will call a strike, beginning on February 14, just one day before the launch of the 2018 Copa Del Rey Tournament. This decision arrives following the failing negotiations between Spanish ACB (Association of Basketball Clubs) and ABP on the matter of a new collective agreement.

Per La Opinion de Malaga, Unicaja president Eduardo García, held a meeting with the players today (8/2) to update them on the status of negotiations. Garcia told the players that he respects their position but also reminded them their obligations towards the sponsors.
