With the 2019 Copa del Rey tension still fresh in Spain, ‘old wounds’ are to be reopened as the trial regarding the infamous ‘Slaughter case’ will soon be held, according to La Vanguardia. The exact date has not been set yet but after Marcus Slaughter’s appeal denied, it is expected to be decided before the summer.

Former Real Madrid player has been accused of falsification of the documents that were used to obtain Equatorial Guinea passports which allowed him as well as former Fuenlabrada player Andy Panko to play in the Spanish League without occupying two foreign player spots allowed to clubs at that time. The prosecution requests the two and a half year sentence for involved players as well as agent Julian Aranda and coach Hugo Munoz.

The prosecution will be very long but, if it is confirmed that Slaughter was improperly included in the team, the games in which he participated could be considered lost. That would imply that Real Madrid would also lose the Copa del Rey and the ACB League titles of 2015. The club has decided not to play any role in this criminal proceeding.
