Sarunas Jasikevicius expressed some very strong opinions when asked about the “basketball” war, raging in Europe.

FIBA, Euroleague, the countries’ national federations. Everyone is involved in this… “war” that is raging on the soil of European basketball. And the opinion of one of the best European players of all time, like Sarunas Jasikevicius, on the whole matter, definitely carries a certain weight that cannot be ignored.

“For me, this whole situation seems absurd”, said the coach of Zalgiris Kaunas. “FIBA has had all the opportunities for many years in order to develop basketball tournaments of the highest level, but what they did was kept at very low level. It’s through Euroleague that things began to drift to a good side. How can FIBA talk about sports principles if they sell wild cards in dumbest ways”.

As one who was never afraid to speak his thoughts, Saras wants other basketball luminaries to do the same. “I wish that the great Europeans related to basketball, like Arvydas Sabonis, Dejan Bodiroga and Andrei Kirilenko expressed more aggressive opinions on the matter, because all opinions are equal. But playing in a tournament organized like FIBA, would be the same as returning to 20 years back”.
