In 2006, Pepu Hernandez won the World Cup with Spain. Now, he wants to be the mayor of the country’s capital.

Former Spanish national team head coach and basketball player Pepu Hernandez is running for mayor of Madrid, according to La Sexta.

Hernandez is chosen by PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) as the candidate for the mayoral elections. He’s Spanish prime minister’s Pedro Sanchez personal choice to compete against mayoress Manuela Carmena.

In 2006, Hernandez coached Spain towards winning the World Cup for the first time in the history of the country. Spain crushed Greece 70 – 47 in the Final despite the injury of leader Pau Gasol.

A year later, Spain won the silver medal under Hernandez in the EuroBasket.
