The German easyCredit BBL League announced the 18 clubs that have received a license to participate in the 2020-2021 season. While second division leader Niners Chemnitz was promoted to BBL, runner-up Bremerhaven waived its right of promotion.

Out of the 18 clubs overall, 13 have been granted the license without the need of any extra requirement: Alba Berlin (the reigning champions), BG Gottingen, Brose Bamberg, EWE Baskets Oldenburg, Bayern Munich, Fraport SKyliners, Crailsheim Merlins, Hamburg Towers, Giessen 46ers, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, Rasta Vechta, Ratiopharm Ulm and Syntainis MBC.

As for the rest of the teams, Braunschweig and Telekom Baskets Bonn still need to fulfill one requirement, that of providing evidence of certain extra data. Medi Bayreuth, Niners Chemnitz and s. Oliver Wurzburg also need to provide evidence of specific data if they want to retain their position in the championship. If they won’t, then the league will withdraw their licenses.

BBL also announced that the previous requirement of a minimum budget of three million euros by each club won’t be applied this season.
