The German Cup Final Four started with host FC Bayern Munich earning the grueling double-overtime victory, 104-102, over ratiopharm Ulm which protests the result. As they stated Wade Baldwin continued playing despite having five fouls and according to FIBA rules he should have been ejected.

“The situation was that there was a player on the field with five fouls. The referees failed. I don’t know if there is a sanction. In all honesty, I don’t expect a sanction. But let’s be surprised, ”said Ulm coach Jaka Lakovic.

Vladimir Lucic with four quick points in the second extra period upped his personal tally to 24 points. Wade Baldwin IV followed with 20 points but was contained in crunch time. Both Jalen Reynolds and JaJuan Johnson were among the multiple players fouling out but managed to put up 15 points, and eight points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks, respectively.

The guests stormed back from a 16-point deficit in the third period but missed plenty of chances to secure the W in the fourth period and in the first overtime as well. Troy Caupain, ejected early in the extra minutes, finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Andreas Obst added 23 points connecting six triples.

ALBA Berlin will face Bayern tomorrow at the Audi Dome to complete the Final Four. The defending champions beat BG Gottingen, 112-96, in the second semifinal. Johannes Thiemann fired a game-high 24 points. Peyton Siva dropped 18 points and Luke Sikma had 16 points.
