Bayern Munich came back from down 18 points to beat Hamburg Towers 86 – 75 and stay at first place in the German BBL League. The Bavarian side holds a league-best 17-5 record while the Towers are 11-10 and 10th in the standings.

The game almost turned into a tragedy when Nick Weiler-Babb had a hard fall under the basket. The American guard landed awkwardly and hit his head on the floor after a dunk attempt during the first half and stayed still for some minutes. He regained consciousness quickly and was taken to the hospital where it was ultimately revealed that he suffered a concussion.

Five players scored in double figures for Bayern. Augustine Rubit dropped 16 points, Leon Radosevic added 14 points, Vladimir Lucic had 13 points, Andreas Obst pitched in 12 points while Jason George finished with 10 points plus six rebounds. Bayern also saw forward Paul Zipser returning to action after undergoing brain surgery last summer.

Caleb Homesley registered a game-high 27 points and Jaylon Brown scored 18 for the Towers. Their team overpowered Bayern 15 – 30 in the second period to close halftime up 28 – 46 but the hosts entered the third quarter with an 11 – 0 run to make it a game again.

Bayern was now the one throwing the punches. Andrea Trinchieri’s players had another strong run to transform a 56 – 60 deficit to a 66 – 60 lead and never let go of their advantage for the rest of the match.
