Oldenburg hands Bayern loss ahead of EuroLeague opener

After a solid start in the German League, Bayern Munich suffered a defeat by EWE Oldenburg.

Behind Charles Manning’s 20 points plus six rebounds and a strong defensive output overall, EWE Oldenburg defeated Bayern Munich 77 – 67 in Round 2 of the German League.

Dewayne Russell contributed 16 points, seven assists, and five rebounds to Oldenburg’s win. Kyle Foster scored 11 and Len Schoormann added 10 points.

Isaac Bonga (14 points) and Andreas Obst (11 points) were the only Bayern players in double figures. Their team struggled to make shots, finishing with 6-26 from the perimeter.

Bayern will now prepare for the EuroLeague opener against fellow German side ALBA Berlin on Thursday (5/10). In contrast with their upcoming opponents, the Albatrosses were stunning in their 110 – 75 win over Crailsheim Merlins.

Matt Thomas and Johannes Thiemman scored 16 points apiece while Sterling Brown provided 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists for ALBA.

From the Merlins, James Murray-Boyles had 19 points and five rebounds.

ALBA Berlin, Rasta Vechta, ratiopharm Ulm and Braunschweig lead the standings at 2-0.
