Bayern Munich was crowned German League champion for the first time since 2014 after beating Alba Berlin 106 – 85 in Game 5 of the Finals and winning the series 3 – 2. It’s the fourth championship title in the history of the club.

Apart from the illustrious trophy, this accomplishment grants Bayern Munich the last remaining ticket for the 2018-2019 EuroLeague. It was thus a double triumph for the Bavarians which came with an emphatic fashion.

Coach Dejan Radonjic’s players performed sublimely on offense right from the start, completing the first quarter with a 32 – 19 lead. Alba tried to keep up and while they had no problem making buckets themselves, putting a stop on Bayern’s machine proved to be more than a challenge.

The visiting squad cut its deficit to 60 – 49  early in the second half but Bayern unleashed an attack that expanded its lead 82 – 58 in the third period. With a bit more than ten minutes remaining, that margin practically meant a “Game Over” for the series.

Six players scored in double figures from Bayern. Nihad Djedovic had 19 points, Jarred Cunningham 16 plus five assists while Devin Booker added 14 points and five rebounds. Danilo Barthel added 12 points plus five rebounds, same numbers as Vladimir Lucic, and Reggie Redding scored 11 points and dished out six assists.

Spencer Butterfield dropped a game-high 29 points for Alba. Niels Giffey had 13 points and Peyton Siva 14 points and four assists.
