Olympiacos was the big favorite to win the intercontinental cup since the announcement of the revival of the tournament by FIBA Americas and Euroleague after 17 years. The back to back Euroleague champions became the 14th club that wins this trophy after destroying in two games Sky Pinheiros, winning their second encounter by 17 points (86-69). Giorgos Printezis with 17 points was the top scorer for the winners.

In the first half the scenery was simular to the first final, despite the fact that Olympiacos was better in defense, specially in the perimeter. The Reds had a 40-33 lead in the half time and by the end of the third quarter (64-50) the game was over. The Brazilians couldn’t keep up and couldn’t react in the last ten minutes of the game against the Greeks.

The difference in quality between the two clubs was more than evident, Pinheiros played a free style basketball that couldn’t provide solution against the better organized Olympiacos. The Reds took advantage of this, got what they wanted and produced some pretty good highlights in the second half. It will be interesting to see the future of the tournament, as the organizers are thinking a possible expansion, featuring also the champions from Asia and Africa.
