After being cut by New Orleans Mekel stayed in the States, waiting for one more chance in the NBA, but now he has an offer from the Russian club and his answer is expected in the next days, or even hours.
Unics was searching for a new point guard after the season ending knee injury of local talent Anton Ponkrashov who may even miss the upcoming Eurobasket. Ponkrashov was hurt in the Eurocup game against Strasbourg. Still Mekel will not have the right to play in Eurocup, as the transfer deadline of the competition has already closed.
