Earned the NBA All Star Game nod as a member of Nick Nurse’s staff at the Toronto Raptors, but Sergio Scariolo announced via social media that he will honor his commitment to the Spanish national team and his head coaching prescence in the 2021 EuroBasket Qualifers during the All Star Break.

“I won’t be attending the NBA All Star weekend in Chicago with my fellow Raptors coaches as I will be in Spain,” he noted, “I’m grateful to the Spanish Basketball Federation, who worked hard to see if it was possible for me to attend, and I’m looking forward to spending the All Star Break coaching the Spanish National team in the 2021 European Championship Qualifiers.”

Took over Spain in 2009 and returned to his position in 2015 after a two-year hiatus. His achievements include a couple of Olympic medals, the EuroBasket gold medals and first place in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

On February 20, Spain will tip off its EuroBasket Qualifying campaign facing Romania at Cluj and three days later will host Poland at Zaragoza. The other Group A team is Israel.
