Germany senior national team selector Gordon Herbert decided on the list of players called up for the 2022 EuroBasket. Naming players from the NBA to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the German Basketball Federation released the squad Tuesday.

Dennis Schroder, both Franz and Moritz Wagner, and Daniel Theis shape the NBA side of the world on the list. Injured Isaac Bonga was left out. Missing as well is Maxi Kleber. Per the press release of the Federation, the Dallas Mavericks power forward cited fatigue from the recent offseasons being shortened as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 16-player EuroBasket squad:

Robin Benzing (Fortitudo Bologna)
Niels Giffey
Justus Hollatz (Rio Breogan)
David Kramer (Basketball Lowen Braunschweig)
Leon Kratzer (Telekom Baskets Bonn)
Maodo Lo (Alba Berlin)
Andreas Obst (FC Bayern Munich)
Kenneth Ogbe (EWE Baskets Oldenburg)
Dennis Schroder
Christian Sengfelder (Brose Bamberg)
Daniel Theis (Indiana Pacers)
Johannes Thiemann (Alba Berlin)
Johannes Voigtmann
Franz Wagner (Orlando Magic)
Moritz Wagner (Orlando Magic)
Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann (Hamburg Towers)

Germany will host Group B of the preliminary round in Cologne. The opponents are France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Hungary from 1-7 September. Four of the six national teams topping the standings will advance to the knockout stage to be hosted in Berlin from 10-18 September.

In late August, Germany will also visit Sweden and host Slovenia tipping off the final round of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. The six-team group will eventually produce three countries punching in a ticket for the final stage of the tournament to be held in Asia next summer.
