In a game where the outcome didn’t change anything, Germany triumphed over Hungary 106-71. Of course, on the court things were more like a glorified practice, as the Germans already knew that they are facing Montenegro in the next round and even if they lose, they would end up second in the group.

That’s why Germany had just a nine-man rotation with Dennis Schroder, Daniel Theis, and Nick Weiler-Babb not being active. Christian Sengfelder played for the first time in the tournament and ended up being the top scorer of the winners with 22 points on 28 minutes of action.

“It felt great being out there, but in the end, we are very happy we got the win”, he said. Maodo Lo added 21 points in 21 minutes.

“I want to say that it was a great experience for us, playing in front of our fans, unbelievable atmosphere”, added coach Gordon Herbert who added that all missing players were injured, with Schroder and Theis having their share of issues since the training camp of the national team.

Things were similar for Hungary, which didn’t have their captain Adam Hanga due to injury. They got 15 points by Zoltan Perl, in their last game for the tournament.

“We were tired and the game didn’t go as we wanted but we are proud of our general effort”, admitted Perl.

Coach Stojan Ivkovic agreed: “It was a short game, with no timeouts. I would like to congratulate my team for the effort and I think that all four teams that qualified from this group belong to the Top8 of the tournament, so we couldn’t keep up”.
