Berlin, Germany – Once again, Spain proved to be one of the best national teams in Europe, despite having a totally revamped roster. However, they beat Germany in the semifinal in front of a packed Mercedes-Benz Arena, securing at least a silver medal.

Alberto Diaz proved to be the key on both sides of the court, scoring 10 points and closing his game with a +25 for his team when he was playing, and then he described his happiness in the mixed zone.

We couldn’t afford to score so many points for the way we play, for the team we are. We changed the game in the second half, and we’ve been solid in the key moments. We’re very happy for being in the final”, he said after the 96-91 victory.

Before the start of EuroBasket 2022, Sergio Scariolo’s current team was considered less competitive than the Spanish rosters that amazed everybody in the past.

“It’s true that with the legends that we had in the past, there were some doubts about us, about our competitiveness, and about our possibility to go far in the tournament”, Alberto Diaz commented.

Then, he explained the reasons for their eternal success: “I think that the Spanish national team has a unique DNA, which is being competitive until the end, no matter the result. We, representing not only Spain but also the great names who defended this jersey, are doing everything that we have”.

“Playing the final is incredible, a unique sensation”, he added. “The dream of every athlete, of all kids. If they ask you to sign for this in every moment of your life, you’ll instantly do it: it’s an enormous joy, and we’re super happy. But there’s a game left and we want to win it”.
