The Spanish national team has already overachieved, in a way, during this EuroBasket and while few believed that they can go for a medal. Including France star Evan Fournier.

Still, Spain is once again in a EuroBasket Final and captain Rudy Fernandez promises that they will put up a fight worthy of their team’s reputation against France.

“It will be special and even moreso with this group,” Fernandez told reporters ahead of the Final. “We come here to enjoy a great Final against one of the best teams. The only thing we can do is enjoy and give everything to at least leave with our heads high.”

Fernandez, the most-veteran player on the Spanish side, wants his younger teammates to also enjoy the experience. “I see them happy and wanting to face something that is going to be unique. “There’s no need to tell them anything, just enjoy the moment. Neither I at 37 nor Usman [Garuba] at 21 know if we’ll return to a Final. In the end, a lot of things happen in sports and it shows that in the end the favorites can collapse. At this point, we don’t know if we’ll do it again.”
