With the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague taking a longer break than what we used to see in the past during the national team’s February window, there might be the possibility of seeing Denmark boosting up its EuroBasket 2025 Qualification chances. Shavon Shields, in fact, has been inserted in the national team’s 24-man preliminary roster ahead of the games with Georgia and Finland.

Olimpia Milano‘s superstar only played once with the Danish national team, scoring 26 points with 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the 98-94 victory over Belarus in the 2021 EuroBasket Pre-Qualifiers. During that game, Iffe Lundberg followed him with 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

The current Virtus Bologna shooting guard once expressed his satisfaction over a potential pairing with Shavon Shields during an interview with Eurohoops in 2022. “If Shavon and I were to play together for the Danish national team, I think that would be very scary. We’ve only played one game together and it was really fun to play. I think our potential was on a showcase”, he commented.

It’s unlikely this will happen due to Shavon Shields’ long period out of the court due to an injury. After the win over Derthona in the domestic league, however, Ettore Messina said he could soon return to action with the red-and-white Italian team. “The only one close to returning is Shavon Shields, who is doing quite encouraging individual training. If there are no setbacks, we might give him for 10 minutes for Friday or Sunday’s game”, the Italian head coach commented.

Marking his fourth EuroLeague campaign with Olimpia Milano, the 29-year-old small forward has been averaging 16.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season. Before signing with Milano back in 2020, he played for Baskonia as well in the highest European competition.
