Great Britain almost completely blew a 21-point lead against the Netherlands at home before getting a 98 – 94 win in the game that closed Day 1 of the 2025 EuroBasket Qualifiers.

The British side was up 69 – 48 halfway through the third period but their opponents rallied for an impressive 2 – 21 comeback in less than five minutes to approach 71 – 69 early in the fourth quarter.

Myles Hesson, Akwasi Yeboah and Luke Nelson combined for an 11-2 run that put Great Britain up by double figures again yet the Dutch side responded to get close 82 – 79. The hosts once again went on a bucket spree to enter the last two minutes 91 – 83. The Dutch efforts in crunch time weren’t enough to erase that margin.

Hesson had 23 points on stellar shooting (7-8 from the field, including 3-4 triples). Yeboah scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds while Nelson dropped 14 points to go with a superb output of 12 assists.

Keye K. van der Vuurst led the Netherlands with 23 points plus nine assists. Charlon Kloof scored 15.
