Despite being a teenager, Luka Doncic is one of the biggest hopes of Slovenia for something big in the upcoming Eurobasket. And for him big means something that never happened before.

Slovenia has never won a medal in a Eurobasket – despite hosting the event – and Doncic wants that to change. As he explained during an interview in the Slovenian national television, he wants to make history.

“I am very happy to be here and I can not wait to start”, Doncic said. “Playing for the senior national team means a new step or several steps forward in my career. I hope that this is good to be a good and successful. I am ready. We have a good team and I look forward to working together with my teammates”.

And that’s wht the goals are high: “Our goal is a medal, but we have to play in a strong preliminary group, against opponents like France and Greece. The key will be to advanve in Istanbul for the final phase, where each game can send you to the medals. We will have to be the best possible”.

Doncic also explained that he never wanted to play for Spain, despite the fact that he grew up in the junior teams of Real Madrid and he could have a Spanish passport: “There was never any speculation about that. I was always clear that I will play with Slovenia. For me, it is a great honor to represent my homeland”.

Slovenia will be led by Goran Dragic and with naturalized big man Anthony Randolph in the roster they are expected to be more than dangerous.
