Shengelia, Shermadini dominate as Georgia upsets Lithuania

The frontline duo of Tornike Shengelia and Giorgi Shermadini made buckets and grabbed those boards at will, helping Georgia win the “friendly” tournament in Klaipeda vs hosts Lithuania.

The two pillars of Georgia’s “inside force” combined for 36 points and 20 rebounds as their team defeated a Lithuania 81 – 70 thanks to a dominant fourth period (23-11).

Shengelia, who also won tournament MVP, scored an 18 points game-high and gathered 8 rebounds while Shermadini posted a double-double of 17 points/12 rebounds to go with his five assists. The tournament’s hosts couldn’t do much against them, considering also that Jonas Valanciunas was left out of the game’s roster.

For a second consecutive game, Arturas Gudaitis emerged as one of the top performers for Lithuania, this time leading his squad in points (17) and rebounds (8). Mindaugas Kuzminskas added 10 points plus five rebounds. Donatas Motiejunas’s return to his national team was combined with nine points six rebounds in less than 20 minutes.
