The worst case scenario was confirmed in the first morning hours for Sergio Llull. The Spanish basketball federation announced that the player suffered a torn ACL.

The really bad news however is that Llull will need at least seven to nine months in order to return back to action after what happened in the preparation game of Spain against Belgium. The press release of the federation is the following.

Following the tests carried out on Sergio Llull in the Hospital Quirón Salud, Tenerife, it has been revealed that Sergio Llull suffered an Anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee.

The player will return to Madrid today to see how long the recovery process will take. Llull will not be taking part in the Eurobasket tournament.

The Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), it’s coaching staff and players would like to show their support for an exemplary professional who is impossible to replace, and they hope to see him return to the court as soon as possible.

Of course, the best case scenario for him is to return on the courts by March 2018. It’s a shock for the player, the Spanish national team and also for Real Madrid, which will miss for the most part of the upcoming season its bigger star.

Llull has emerged the last two year as the most important player of Real Madrid and he was the EuroLeague MVP last season.
