Missas confirmed that he was informed by the side of the player about his absence from the upcoming Eurobasket today and he was not expecting this turn of events.

“My biggest problem now is that we expected Giannis Antetokounmpo to play in the upcoming Eurobasket, but he will not”, said Missas who explained what happened during the last few days. “Giannis trained with us without any issues, then the Bucks medical staff said that he needed rest for five days and then they asked for him to be re-examined. There was communication between our doctors and the Bucks and we thought that everything was good. One hour before today’s game they informed us from China, where Giannis traveled due to promotional NBA duties, that his problem is more serious and he will not be able to play. We wanted to have him with us, but this not possible. However, I have confidence in my other players, their talents, and their hearts. We have three more preparation games and I believe we will be 100% ready for the tournament”.

The Greek basketball federation has already issued a press release accusing the Bucks and the NBA for a plot to keep Giannis out of the Eurobasket.
