Missing the upcoming Eurobasket is a huge blow not only to the Greek national team but also to Giannis Antetokounmpo himself.

After meeting with his teammates at OAKA Giannis talk to the press about the way things turned out: “I don’t have much to say. I’m very disappointed that I won’t be able to help the team in the EuroBasket but the most important thing right now is the team. I know that there’s something sort of a panic right now. And I could’ve made this statement after the European Championship, or while in Milwaukee or anywhere. But the most important thing is the team and I don’t want to say something more.”

Giannis also addressed the matter of him making the announcement about his condition and his inability to play in the upcoming Eurobasket: “Some articles were written and things being said. But I said what I wanted to say and no one can express the feelings I have inside me better than myself. This is why I didn’t want the federation to announce it or someone else, but me. Right now, the most important thing is the team because there are some people who are disappointed that I won’t play and the attention shouldn’t be focused on me but on the team.”

Antetokounmpo will stay in Greek for a few more days and he will be present as a spectator in the first game of the Greek national during the upcoming “Acropolis tournament”, the last major preparation tournament before the Eurobasket.
