With Croatia emerging as a medal contender for the upcoming Eurobasket, coach Alexander Petrovic talked about the ambitions of his team in the history of the past 20 years.

Petrovic talked to the Croatian newspaper “Vecernji List” and addressed the fact that Serbia has beaten Croatia in the four official games that they have met during the last two decades.

The question was if Croatia has an inferiority complex. “I would not say that”, said Petrovic. “After all, they are a world class team and in all these cases on paper they have had stronger roster than us. However, the last game in Rio tells us that we are close, very close”.

On the other hand Petrovic admitted that Croatia has lost some good chances to do something big: “In the last 22 years (ed.note: Serbia and Croatia met for the first time as opponents after the division of Yugoslavia in Eurobasket 1995) we had three or four chances to get a medal and we didn’t, but speaking of a curse is stupid”.
