Mateusz Ponitka and Adam Waczynski lifted Poland over Iceland in the first game of Eurobasket Day 3.

Early on in the first quarter, Iceland came out with a lot of energy and passion but it was a matter of time until Poland got the upper hand in the game; starting on from the second quarter and led by 11 points at the half (41-29). The second half was a monologue for the Polish team, and the game finally ended 91-61 in favor of Poland. Poland improves to a 1-1 record, while Iceland falls to 0-2.

The star: Adam Waczynski was the best player on the court, as he led Poland to the victory scoring 15 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. Mateusz Ponitka was also spectacular to watch with 8 points and 10 rebounds. A.J. Slaughter added 12 points.

The turning point: The first quarter was a low scoring affair (16-14) but since the early second quarter, Poland started making shots and starting different runs that increased their lead (25-18 -6:08 Q2). A.J. Slaughter played a crucial role in Poland’s success in the second quarter with 7 points. Mateusz Ponitka and Adam Waczynski led Poland to a 10-point lead (34-24 -3:26 Q2) which was the early end of the game.

Not enough: Hordur Vilhjalmson made some impressive shots and scored 16 points while Martin Hermansson helped Iceland with 14 points and 4 rebounds.
