With the possible exception of the first game of the schedule, all the other match ups are more than crucial and decisive.

There’s going to be tension, there’s going to be drama, we are going to see real fights. And when it’s all set and done, we may even know who will end up in the next phase.

Iceland – Slovenia – Group A (13.45 local time)

On a day of big games, this is one of the few exceptions. Slovenia has to suicide in order to not stay unbeaten.

Russia – Latvia – Group D (14.15 local time)

One of the most important games of the day will be played early. Russia will be tested against Latvia in a key game for the top spot of the group. If Russia gets it, then they will finish first no matter what happens in any other game left.

Czech Republic – Montenegro – Group C (15.00 local time)

With both teams having real qualification hopes, this is a fight for the survival. On paper, Montenegro is the better team.

Ukraine – Lithuania – Group D (15.45 local time)

In theory, this should be an easy game for “Lietuva”.  However, Ukraine already stunned Georgia and doesn’t have anything to lose.

Poland – France – Group A (16.30 local time)

After the heart breaking defeat by Finland, Poland has to react. However, the key game for them will be the next against Greece, so France, which is better, can get the win without much fuss.

Great Britain – Serbia – Group D (17.00 local time)

A glorified practice for Serbia after the test and the win against Turkey.

Croatia – Spain – Group C (17.45 local time)

The first real test of Spain in the tournament. And also the first real challenge for Croatia. That’s going to be one of the games to watch today.

Italy – Germany – Group B (18.30 local time)

Anything can still happen in Group B and both opponents need the win. Still, Italy seems to enter this game as the strongest team.

Greece – Finland – Group A (20.00 local time)

This is going to be a dogfight In Finland’s case, a positive result will also seal the qualification to the next round. On the other hand, Greece, even if they get the win, they would have to beat also Poland in the last game of the group in order to advance.

Romania – Hungary – Group C (20.30 local time)

The hosts of Group C are still trying to get their first win in order to stay alive in the qualification race. This is their last chance and Hungary is better.

Turkey – Belgium – Group D (21.00 local time)

After losing close games to Russia and Serbia this is a must win for Turkey in order to secure their spot in the next round. Belgium will be in trouble or will create the biggest upset of the tournament.

Israel – Georgia – Group B (21.30 local time)

A battle for survival for both teams. Georgia has a better roster, Israel is playing at home.
