A 37-year-old Pau Gasol has plenty of experience to handle even the most difficult losses, like the one to Slovenia in order to successfully concentrate on the next, highly important game.

“My plan with the national team is trying to compete in order to win the bronze medal. We must humbly accept defeat and prepare ourselves because we are lucky that we can still get a medal in this tournament and leave in a joyful manner. We have to be aware of the value of the bronze and value the moment and opportunity to win a medal. That’s very difficult,” said the Spanish center in the post-game press conference.

Regarding the match and the fantastic performance by the Slovenian national team, he added:

“We have to give credit to Slovenia because they played very well. They had an incredible percentage from the 3-point line. Everything went in. It didn’t matter how they shot the ball. They deserved to advance to the final. As for us, it wasn’t our night. We turned the ball over too many times. Tough loss but we must get over it and get ready for the next game. We had played five EuroBasket finals we won three golds. We also lost in the Olympic Games semis and were able to bounce back and win the bronze medal vs Australia. That’s our plan here. Slovenia played on a very high level and we congratulate them. It was well deserved. Now we rest, recover and prepare for a medal my game. My mindset is always like that no matter the result.”
